1. Faculty members, among the nation’s leading professionals in teaching, research and extension, serve as student advisors and meet regularly with students outside the classroom. With 38 faculty members, the department has one of the lowest student-to-teacher ratios in the region. |
| 2. Students benefit significantly from Animal Science Departmental Scholarships. Nearly $11,000 in scholarships have been awarded to incoming students, and close to $30,000 awarded to continuing students in the Animal Science Department for the 2006-2007 academic year. |

3. Experiential learning offers opportunities for national and international travel though intercollegiate team competitions, internships, week-long study tours focused on meats, swine, horse, feedlot and other interest areas, and faculty-led trips to New Zealand and Mexico. |
| 4. Positive modifications to the Animal Science program include extensive recent and ongoing expansion in the areas of Equine Science, Companion Animals, Beef Production and Veterinary Sciences in cooperation with other departments in UNL’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. |

5. The Animal Science program has recently been ranked #4 on the list of leading universities serving the meat and poultry industries by Meat and Poultry magazine, and three undergraduates were recent winners of the highly competitive National Meat Association Scholarships. |

Recent successes by judging teams include having students named to the All American Intercollegiate Livestock Judging Team for the past four consecutive years, a recent top-ten placing in the North American International Livestock Judging Contest, and a 6th place overall finish in the National Meat Animal Evaluation Contest. |

7. A growing equine program has had many recent successes, including a 6th place team finish at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association National Championship and a first place team finish at the NACTA Horse Judging Contest. |
| 8. Extensive opportunities for student involvement include the Block and Bridle Club, Animal Science Ambassadors, Animal Science Leadership Academy, Equestrian Team, Horse Judging Team, Livestock Judging Team, Meat Animal Evaluation Competition Team, Meats Judging Team and others. |

9. On site state of the art animal handling and research facilities allow hands-on learning with cattle, horses, swine, sheep, poultry and small animals. |
