Instruction at this level should continue to stress the basic handling
and riding fundamentals given in Beginning Horsemanship and begin
emphasis on the 4-H member’s ability to use these fundamentals in
obtaining more response from the horse. In order to pass Level II, the
4-H’er must show proficiency and confidence in ALL portions of the
test: written, demonstration, written report, and skills.
Once a section has been passed, it need not be repeated. However, if a
member fails to pass a section of the levels test, that entire section
must be repeated (i.e., retake the written exam, or retake the entire
Skills Test). Each section may be repeated as many times as necessary
for successful completion.
NOTE: The entire riding portion of Level II must be done with a single
horse and be ridden with one hand on the reins (Western riders) or
two-handed (English riders).
Exception: Horses 4 years old or younger, if ridden with a snaffle bit
or as described in the Nebraska 4-H Horse Show and Judging Guide, may
be ridden two-handed.
I. Club Demonstration
a. Give a club demonstration on any of the subjects listed on page 14 or within the Intermediate horseman Study Guide or Skills Test . (Demonstration should be completed prior to the Written and Skills Test. Suggested length: 10-20 minutes.) NOTE: A different demonstration must be done for each horsemanship level.

II. Written Report

III. Feeds Chart
a. Make a chart of the different roughages and grains used in your area. Show the amount of roughage and grain your horse should receive while it is IDLE, at LIGHT WORK and at MEDIUM WORK. Make all figures in pounds.

IV. Written Examination
(Individuals who administer the exam should realize some youth may have special needs and should use their judgment on the method of administration.)

V. Skills Test
a. A Skills Test
demonstrating the 4-H'ers proficiency of horsemanship, horse handling,
equipment adjustment, judging and care must be completed. The 4-H'er

Intermediate Horseman level.
