New for 2009

  •  ALL 4-H Horse Project Advancement Level testing required for classes at the 2009 District and State 4-H Horse Shows MUST be completed when entries are due to your county office -- MAY 8.

  • A revised edition of the 4-H Horse Show and Judging Guide will be available after April 15.  The revised 2009 edition will be utilized for the 2009 show season.

  • 4-H Classic Class

  • 2009 Aksarben 4-H Horse Show changes
    Date: September 22 & 23, 2009
  •      There have been a variety of changes made for the 2009 Aksarben 4-H Horse Show: 
          1. Exhibitors may enter as many classes as they whish BUT an exhibitor &/or horse may only be entered in
          one class once- just as in previous years. Please refer to the Aksarben entry requirements for more
          explanation: http://www.rivercityroundup.org/
         
    2. New classes for 2009 (no Advancement Level required):
              a. English Showmanship: Jr and Sr divisions
              b. Western Showmanship: Jr. and Sr. division
         
    3. Classes not offered in 2009:
              a. Advanced English Pleasure and English Equitation
              b. Advanced Western Pleasure and Western
              Horsemanship
         
    4. No District qualifying required to enter any Aksarben 4-H
          Horse Show class
         
    5. Reminders- Exhibitors MUST be 12 years of age as of
          January 1 AND have passed Level 2 for English
          and Western Pleasure, English Equitation, Western
          Horsemanship, Reining, Barrel Racing and Pole
          Bending. Level 3 must have been passed to enter Hunter
          Hack, no level requirement for Showmanship.
    Deadlines
    All entries are due August 14, 2009 unless an earlier deadline is set by your local County Extension office.

  • District Horse Shows:
    • English will be held at all 6 District shows and will be the first classes of the day.
  • State Show Shavings!
    • Fonner Park State 4-H Horse Show
      • Shavings will be available on the grounds in 2009.
  • Horse Judging and Hippology
    TEAM MEMBERS
    • All POTENTIAL team members and alternates MUST be listed on the contest entry form.
    • Entry forms MUST be returned by the contest deadline.
    • NO additional team members can be added the day of the contest.
    • Country staff/Coach will designate teas at the time of contest check-in.
  • MULTIPLE TEAMS
    • Counties may enter multiple teams, however all team members MUST be from adjacent counties.
  • Hippology
    • As in recent years, the Hippology contest will begin on Sunday, with check-in at 5:30 in the Cafeteria. The written exam, stations and team problem (senior division) will be conducted on Sunday. The Judging phase will be held on Monday, during the Judging contest.
    • During the Judging Phase, all contestants must place and answer questions individually. Discussion within team members is not allowed. Each contestant will turn in a separate judging placing and questions, scores will be averaged.
    • Again 2009 - in all phases, Senior contestants will work independently, except for the Team Problem.
  • District Horse Show Process DVD
    We have developed a DVD to demonstrate and explain the process used for Pleasure and Horsemanship/Equitation at the District Horse Shows. Video clips are used to demonstrate the process used in the District 4-H Horse Shows. One copy was placed in each county office in 2007. Additional DVD's may be purchased for $10 each.

  • Working Ranch Horse Class DVD
    A DVD has been developed about the Working Ranch horse class. This DVD includes video clips from the 2006 State 4-H Horse Show and explains the class as well as provides insight as to how the class is judged. Price for the DVD's is $10 each.
